Judge Pauses Biden Administration
Judge Pauses Biden Administration Program That Aids Undocumented Spouses
A federal judge in Texas has temporarily halted a Biden administration program aimed at helping undocumented immigrants who are married to U.S. citizens.
This program, which could potentially allow up to half a million people to obtain citizenship, has been put on hold due to a lawsuit filed by 16 Republican-led states.Judge J. Campbell Barker, of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, issued the temporary stop to the program while the court reviews the case. He cited concerns raised by the lawsuit, particularly about whether the executive branch has the authority to create immigration policy without going through Congress. The judge, who was appointed by
former President Donald Trump, stated that the claims made in the lawsuit are significant enough to deserve a thorough examination.
As a result, the administration cannot process any new applications under this program until the court makes a final decision.
